Team USA: Not knowing where the flags are for the national anthem since 2011.
So urm yeah, it starts off okay then gets worse because I was struggling to stay awake. I would love to have some feedback or ideas where to take this, or this one would probably be the end. But enjoy….I hope!
3 long dreadful hours after the horrific road side situation, the car pulls up to the hospital to find a crash cart waiting and McKayla is rushed into A&E, leaving a distraught Aly in the waiting room with the rest of the girls, reflecting on what might happen.
7 months later…
Aly was visiting the Maroney household which was normally full of life and fun, yet for the past 7 months the atmosphere seemed cold, dark and depressing. Aly was alone being as everyone else was out of the house occupying their free time. So Aly was slummed over on the couch glancing from the TV to her phone, until her attention was fully focused on the news which was on the TV. All she heard was the news reporter say “today the suspect of a gymnast’s murder was sentenced to life in prison”. She blocked out whatever else was being said and could not take her mind of those words 3 words. A gymnast’s murder. It sent shivers down her spine every time the thought crossed her mind, but she had to get past it, she had to move on.
Aly sat perfectly still for a good 30 minutes thinking that there are moments that we all wish that we could take back, and that she wishes McKayla was with her at this very second in time. There are a lot of thoughts and images that ran threw her head and a lot of unanswered questions that seemed to be never ending. She felt lost, cold and alone; and she couldn’t think of anything else. McKayla was in her mind all the time, as she last saw her, and she felt that she would never love anyone the way that she loved her. Aly still loved her, and she couldn’t get over her love for McKayla. It was as if she was stuck at the time of the incident, for some reason, she couldn’t leave, couldn’t move as she thought that the day after the incident once McKayla had sobered up she would be able to spill about her feelings and tell McKayla that she truly loved her and would always be there for her no matter what.
Aly’s thoughts where interrupted by the sound of a car pulling in the drive way, and she instantly shot up from her position on the couch, and practically sprinted to the front door. She stood about 3 steps away from the wooden door so there was enough room for it to be opened, and her eyes where fixed on the handle, waiting for it to be opened. It must have been seconds for the door handle finally turned and the door was opened to have Aly standing right in the middle of the hall way behind the now opened door with an emotionless face.
“What on earth are you doing Aly?” Aly took a good few seconds to think about what she had just been asked; she only stood there in confusion as she was only opening the door. What else was she doing? “Opening the door” “no…you’re just being weird.” Aly couldn’t help but smile at the stupid reply. This made all of Aly’s past thoughts, go within seconds. The cold, lost and alone feeling quickly turned into extreme confusion but after a comment that made her smile, she felt whole, like the missing part of her heart had travelled over the tallest mountains, through the wildest forests and the driest desert just to be linked together again. All the struggles and pain in the last 7 months meant nothing now, because everything was going to be okay.
“Seriously why are you staring at me like that? It’s creepy.” “I’m just happy it wasn’t you McKayla”. Aly rested her head on McKayla’s shoulders and placed her hands around her for comfort. “Are you talking about that gymnast?” McKayla took Aly’s silence as a yes to her question and simply placed a delicate kiss on her cheek. McKayla then pushed Aly off her with all her strength and Aly practically flew across the couch yet McKayla seemed unfazed by Aly nearly falling of the couch and simply sat crossed-legged facing towards Aly and smirked “you know what, you can’t get rid of me that easy Alexandra”.
Aly leant back up and playfully pushed McKayla for payback, but that was a mistake. McKayla jumped off her seat, grabbing a cushion and throwing it straight at Aly. The cushion hit Aly in the face and McKayla took advantage of the opportunity and jumped on Aly’s lap. “I’m not a jungle gym! You can’t just climb on top of me every time you want to play”, “Aly”, “what”, “shup up”. McKayla shuffled down the couch so her head fell into Aly’s lap. They both sat there for hours, watching TV and making occasional comments about one another. But Aly had something on her mind, she was anxious to ask the question which could cause the night to be a normal, amazing evening or an awfully silent night which would be hell for both of them.
“How was your doct-”, Aly stopped as McKayla looked up at her as if she had hit a rough nerve. “Fine” “so everything’s good then, no more unexpected trips to the hospital, no more pain, no more tests, no more anything”.
It was clear that McKayla had to go back to the hospital because Aly had no reply; just McKayla sat there playing with her fingers whilst trying not to make eye contact with Aly. But Aly decided not to say anything more, just smile at McKayla and intertwine their fingers together. McKayla leaned her head on Aly’s chest and from that point on, they knew that the only place they were both safe and belonged was with each other.
